Yorkshire Sculptors Group

MAY 11 – SEP 29

Breaking Ground – Sculpture Walk

The term ‘ground-breaking’ has several interpretations: it can mean ‘to make progress by doing something completely different’ or ‘to begin digging into the earth for new construction’. The members of the Yorkshire Sculptors Group will be rising to the challenge and interpreting the exhibition theme in many different ways, reflecting their individual, diverse and deeply personal ways of making sculpture.

The YSG was set up in 1985 with the intention of bringing together sculptors living and working in Yorkshire (and the surrounding region) to promote their work through exhibitions and discussion. We have shown our work in many venues throughout Yorkshire and beyond – from York Minster, the cathedrals of Ripon and Durham, the Bowes Museum, to many public and private galleries in London and across the UK, and most recently in Baltimore USA.

As you find your way around the Sculpture Walk ‘Breaking Ground’ there are QR codes on all the labels which link through to these pages – so you can listen to the Sculptors as you stand in front of their pieces…. If you have an Apple iPhone just open your camera and point it at the QR code – then click the link at the top of the screen to open the sculptors page….
